2022 Benefit Dinner: The Massage Therapy Foundation raises $61,508

News

Last week in Montreal, the 12th edition of the Fondation de la massothérapie’s benefit dinner was held in a sumptuous reception room at the Omni Hotel. The various fundraising activities (ticket sales, auction, raffle) raised $61,508. Manon Choinière, PhD, full professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal, gave a remarkable speech on chronic pain and the effectiveness of massage therapy in a multidisciplinary approach. This talk is timely for the National Chronic Pain Awareness Week of November 6-12, 2022.

Since its inception in 2010, the Foundation has provided more than 30,000 free massage therapy treatments to vulnerable individuals. In addition to people with chronic pain, the Foundation has focused on people with cancer, mental health disorders, and more recently on seniors in long-term care facilities and women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Developments are also underway with First Nations communities.

Since the administrative costs are absorbed by the Fédération québécoise des massothérapeutes, which set up the Fondation de la massothérapie, the donations collected go to people in need. All the beneficiaries are unanimous: “massage therapy provides an incredible sense of well-being!”
